Inside the Islamic State – Western Journalists Explore the Iraq and the Levant

A notable journalist group – VICE News – and a famed writer – Jürgen Todenhöfer – have been on the ground in the Islamic State to discover the terrorist group’s governance and the civilian attraction to ISIL.

Key findings of the VICE News video include:

The sheer brutality of ISIL against Syrian Arab Army soldiers, including the beheading and posting of heads of POWs.

ISIL has established youth camps to perpetuate their reign of terror.

ISIL uses a draconian interpretation of Sharia Law enforced by the Hisbah (religious police).

ISIL views the ideal world as not having borders (like under Sykes-Picot), but unified under the Caliphate.

Interesting discoveries of Jürgen Todenhöfer are:

“Isis is much stronger than we think here [the West].”

ISIL’s militants are motivated by “an almost ecstatic enthusiasm that I have never encountered in any other warzone.”

In order for the ISF to retake Mosul, they would have to have the U.S. “reduce the whole of Mosul to ruins.”

Moreover, ISIL’s policies of exclusion amounted to “the largest religious cleansing strategy that has ever been planned in human history.”
